Chris Weeks - The Self-Medication Motel

"The Self-Medication Motel", by Chris Weeks, is an auditory sanctuary designed for deep listening and introspection. Rooted in bilateral music theory, this experimental drone album offers a unique blend of subtle minimalism, organic soundscapes and hypnotic warped field recordings. Its minimalist, deep drones, immersive noise and incidental sounds create a meditative environment that aids in alleviating anxiety, stress, and sleeplessness. Best experienced with over-the-ear headphones, "The Self-Medication Motel" transforms home listening into a deeply personal, abstract journey of mindfulness and relaxation, where every sound resonates with the art of self-care.

“The Self-Medication Motel," is an exploration of sound as therapy, drawing from my own mental health challenges. I create these pieces for myself to try to navigate and alleviate these struggles. I hope they might help others who suffer with similar issues. The album is influenced by bilateral music theory, a method that alternates sound between the left and right ears to engage both hemispheres of the brain, aiding in stress relief and emotional processing. With "The Self-Medication Motel," I hoped to utilise the essence of this theory to create an immersive auditory experience that not only promotes relaxation and focus but also serves as a therapeutic tool, embodying my ideas of the healing power of music.
