The original audiotrack sounded really inspiring for me so when I saw underscore8298 starting this remix contest, I decided to contact underscore8298 in terms of permission to create a remix of this piece and luckily the creator agreed to my idea.

A main goal for me was to make this remix sound a bit less electronic by mixing multiple instruments to create less static sounding samples, for example the intro consists of an accordeon joint together with a clarinet covered by scenic violin samples.

As some of my favourite styles of music I tried to go for some kind of an upbeat-breaks blend with this remix and I really liked the original song structure so I tried keeping it where it's possible by not deviating too much from the original. In addition to that I've implemented this Can Opening sample underscore8298 was mentioning because I thought it's a funny way to introduce specific audio sections. Besides, it was fun for me experimenting with different piano sounds on individual drumloops and basspad creations.

Hey! Just checking out everyone's remixes and thought I might start with you haha :D

First thing's first, I really, really like the melodic ideas in this track! The general vision you had for this track was quite phenomenal, considering you have submitted 4 tracks so far. Oh, and I love that key change at the end into F# Major! It just works so well here and I don't even know why.

On the more technical side of things, I agree with underscore8298 in that the intro sounds a little messy, and I think that the reason is the instrument you used has too much release. Just make the sample your using play for less time and it should stop it from drowning everything else. Another technical thing I would fix (and the last one, since I don't want to get nit-picky) is the drums, since they are quiet compared to the rest.

I really hope this helps! I think you have got a lot of potential!

Liftek responds:

Thanks for your opinion! Yeah the intro probably contains some particularities which can be argued about. Actually, I was thinking about removing a couple more harmonics from that intro sample but I decided not to change too much in order to keep a sound which to me offered an interesting more natural feel.
Also I thought this contest might be bit more focussed on creativity than the technical aspect because it's mentioned earlier in the criteria list of the contest announcement.

Regarding the drums I came to the conclusion that I pretty much like my drums sound a bit less powerfull on some music pieces. I was experimenting with higher volumes on the drums in earlier uploads hence I tried aiming for a less intense mix this time.
At 0:25-0:51 the low drum volume is intentional because I love experimenting with very quiet sounding samples within the first seconds of a song. Inside my headphones the drums sound considerably more punchy than on my phone speakers so I will try focussing a bit more on the stereo field in the next time.

Very cool!

Liftek responds:

Thank you!

Creative remix, cool instrumentation!

Liftek responds:

Thanks for your opinion, appreciate it!

This remix sounds so uplifting in a way! Making it into an orchestral track was an interesting choice, and it fits your style well.
I’m rating everything 5 for now, until I do the judge reviews! ;)

Judge review:

Creativity: 34/40
The goal of “de-electronic-ifying” the track was definitely an interesting idea! The intro was a bit messy, but the rest of the song is very well executed. ESPECIALLY the drops. That’s where I really heard your style come out, and if you’ve read any of the other judge reviews you’ll know that I LOVE IT when a creator blends their style with the track. Drops are just very soothing, well done here! Structure is similar, but not too much. It all works for me!

Technical: 22/25
The mixing is great at the drops and buildups. I would have loved to hear more of the drums, however, but this is definitely one of e cleaner entries in this contest during the drops. The intro was a bit messy, as I said before. You used it a lot throughout the song as well, which would have been okay but it just doesn’t sound quite right. And it slightly overpowers the mix. But this is song is very beautiful!

Atmosphere: 10/10
The drops are so amazing. I can not say this enough. I thank you for making Extra Sprite sound this good. Your choice of using real instruments was a great one. The piano is also great. Your skills show through here.

Instrumentation: 9/10
Basically everything I could say here is already said above. The choices were superb, but the according/clarinet/violin was a bit too loud. The instrumentation is actually one of the main things that makes this track so good.

Overall: 13/15
I originally didn’t like this track, but then I put on my headphones and understood how good it truly is! This is a truly enthralling track that I would love to read a book or do homework or even just fall asleep to!

Total: 88/100

Congrats on 2nd place! This is a very neat entry, I really love what you’ve done with the song. Make sure to listen to everyone else’s tracks, they did great! Good luck on all of your future projects, and thanks for participating!

Liftek responds:

Thank you very much, this is seriously a prodigious compliment for me!
Also thanks for your opinions regarding these compositional aspects :)
