Qshunt - Floating Pointless [NGADM23]

This is my entry for the next stage of the NGADM 2023 competition.

I'm wondering if I've bitten off more than I can chew?

NGADM and NGUAC at the same time is rather stressful.

All I can do is try, I guess?

Good luck to all other entrants👍iu_1055053_2747293.webp

I like the spacey atmosphere at the beginning. The mix is really loud and punchy throughout the piece. There’s a great sense of build-up into :44, and I like the rhythmic content at :45. The texture is a bit minimal for most of the next minute or so, and the upper-mid-range of the frequency spectrum in particular is rather bare. The atmospheric breakdown at 2:12 was good for some variety, and you transition well back into the gritty breaks at 2:55. The last couple of minutes of the piece are very dragged-out, with a near constant energy level and some overused transition patterns (like the baby riser at 3:39). I would’ve liked to hear some bolder melodic elements and/or richer harmonies to really hit the piece home. Overall, though, you nailed the sound design, mixing, and rhythmic content here. Keep at it, Qshunt! ^_^

Think you might be one of, if not my favourite electorinc artists right now. Love your stuff. Need to get into more neuro. Any personal picks you recommend?

Qshunt responds:

Thanks a lot! It's much appreciated
I've got a few new tracks coming out soon, a couple on Creatures Records too👍

Zombie Cats are one of my favourite tech/neuro producers. Their most recent LP "Tech Dreams" is excellent.
Erb N Dub is another artist who does a bit of all styles of dnb, but does them well.
Anything from Eatbrain Records is usually worth checking out for neuro, too.

Some Dancefloor DnB producers I respect are Matrix and Futurebound, Grafix, and Metrik but there are a ton more I could go on about😂

Cheers again for the support!

Sometimes it's ok to try to push yourself into producing more in less time. It can make you more efficient with time if you find yourself composing something with lots of time restraints in the future. Good luck!!

Qshunt responds:

I generally work quite well under pressure, but I've got a few real-life dilemmas going on that make time management a bit more difficult for tackling too many projects at once :/

Thanks for listening to my music.

Quite the Like!
Like the floating quicke!
Can I ask why its called floating pointless?

Qshunt responds:

I had a moment of existential dread, then made it a play on a mathematics term.
