From State of Agony, which is my new album I'm currently working on.

I got a new keyboard recently, a PS-25, basically an early digital keyboard from Yamaha. It's from 1983 if I remember correctly. I found it at a thrift store and it talks beautifully with my Make Noise Strega (when it wants to).

This was just raw experimentation with the PS-25 and the Strega at first. When I was listening back to it, I got the idea of inter-cutting the track with low quality versions of it, almost like the track is struggling just to be played.

I did this by simply recording the track onto a cassette and playing it back in two different cassette players. The first one (the clearer one with no warble) was a Radioshack personal cassette recorder. I just hovered my Zoom over the built in speaker and let it play.

The second one was a General Electric personal cassette player (Walkman-like device). These have built in speakers in the back of them, and I have two of these somehow. The first one's speaker only plays garbled static (which you can hear in the title track for this album). The second one... I forgot didn't work. So I grabbed some really really cheap mono computer speakers I accidentally bought (long story) and plugged it into the player and recorded it the same as the Radioshack one. The problem that both of my GE players have, is that they are playing at weird speeds and sound warbly and horrible (but a good kind of horrible, y'know). These GE players also have a speed changing dial on them, so yeah, those were all the hoops I jumped through to get the effects you hear in this track.

The audio feedback noises are from a audio jack that was hooked up to my Strega and I was just holding it in my hand and... well basically giving it a handjob by constantly touching the tip.

Screaming is of course me, it always is (unless said otherwise).
