the refugee's song ~ definitive edition

Author Comments

The original, The Refugee's Song, was written in 2016 and released in 2017, while I was going through the worst overreaches of the Home Office during the process of my asylum claim. I now have the right to remain, and much better mixing technique and writing chops behind me.

Not releasing this on Bandcamp or other platforms yet. I'll think about it.

LYRICS

The storm beats down a crowded barge;

they pray to safely reach the shore:

O free me! Release me,

we can't find a place to be safe anymore.

I may not be upon those waves,

or sinking to the ocean floor,

but free me! Release me,

I can't find a place to be safe anymore.

Now years have passed, and our abusers

have traded words for lead and steel.

O hear my cries! Release me;

what good is the whole world if we're safe no more?

Musically it’s beautiful. It builds up really smoothly and I can really feel the emotion behind the words you sing.

Lyrically it’s quite dark, but it’s effective and isn’t too on the nose while also conveying its message clearly enough to be understandable.

Very well done. :)

Beatiful!

I like the softness of the piano, and of course the vocals accompanying it.

I think you are Enya & Sinéad combined

Masterpiece.
