Hello! This song is inspired by my favorite game, Castlevania Symphony of The Night! To be more specific, this song is inspired by Dance Of The Pales by Tim Stoney! I was going for a sort of dark atmospheric video game vibe. Hope you enjoy!

i really like the song

I like the waltzy piano riff at the beginning and the pensive, almost introspective mood. The piece could use a bit more atmosphere - reverb on the piano, sharper and more prominent percussion, etc. - but the strings and other layered harmonies as the piece goes on help the texture feel full and rich after a while. The production quality is not bad, but the mix is very quiet. I like how the piece comes full circle at the end with the waltzy piano riff. I also think the arrangement sounded a bit formulaic, with regular changes in the texture every 4 or 8 bars, but not a lot of ebb and flow within those 8 bars. Still, the elegant sound design, melodies, and soothing aura of this piece have really won me over. Keep at it, SomeGuy! ^_^

Thank you!

Nice detuned piano here. Or is that just tuning? I'm retarded in terms of that side of music theory at this point.

at 49 I can't quite hear what's going on in that bass and so it's a bit distracting as occasionally I hear rumble and other times I don't.

Castanets (is that what they are) could come down, as could your tubular bells, vinyl noise, and other accents. The main melody or counter melody is in your piano and drives the piece. It's a bit covered up with those accents. For the castanet specifically, or whatever instrument that is, an option with more varied velocities and attacks would be your best option.

Otherwise, fantastic piece. Wish there was a bit less abrupt ending.

Great work. Thanks for coming out to NGADM!

Thank you!

I'm convinced this is the piece goths dance to during prom

I'm not a very classy guy, but this should be in an adventure videogame.
The structure is very nice, as it goes on adding more things, goes from gloomy to hopeful, specially when strings starts blending in, one of my favourite parts. Also the placing of the instruments is really good, I don't know much about stereo field and those things tho.
After the climax there's some saturated voice-like sound at 1:30, can't tell if it was made on purpose but it's not very pleasant hearing that when it's supposed to be the calm part. Same thing with the very last violin note, a bit loud...
If you recorded some of the instruments live with mic, hence the possible saturation, then props to you man. I don't even have talent to play some piano scores live and record it into my DAW.

SomeGuyMusic responds:

Thank you! The 1:30 distortion was supposed to be on purpose but I guess I should've eased it down just a bit. Also these are all stock instruments of FL Mobile! I tried my best to humanize them. Thank you for the review!
