NGAIC Layer 4

I wanted to convey a sense of disdain, arrogance and decadence often associated with nobility,

at least in novels and depictions.

Also my character theme if i ever become a malevolent marquis^^

Thank you for listening, comment, feedback appreciated :)

I really love the instrumentation and phrasing.

It definitely has an err of nobility to it.

Thanks for listening :)

** A NGAIC REVIEW **

o/ :)

COMPLIMENTS:

- Despite it only being 00:35, this is SO detailed and intricate! I can just imagine the bougie aristocrats chatting it up and laughing at people less fortunate than themselves in this. It feels perfect for a short cutscene in a video game or visual novel.

- It's pretty accurate to French baroque-style. Well done!

- Love the violin. It's very lively and pretty strong in its articulation. :D

CRITIQUE:

- I am unsure if that 'pluck' is supposed to be some strange acoustic guitar or a harpsichord, but it doesn't really sound like either. I think a bit more mixing care is needed on it to pull out its strengths and curtail the weaknesses of the instrument(s), (namely, the louder end of the pluck, and softening the hit on the body/piano hammer). Some tiny cuts around the 500hz and 5k hz areas would stabilize the sound a wee bit.

- The violin seemed to have it, but your other instruments / synths used didn't sound humanized. They pretty much hit the same velocity throughout and doesn't have a lot of "human error" wiggle room with slight shifts of the MIDI (AKA: they not being locked in to the exact notation). Would give your piece a bit more vibrancy, movement and flow in feeling like an arrangement played live.

Otherwise, this is a lovely piece, and it feels built for dialogue. ♥ Glad I got to hear it!

Good luck with the remaining layers! :3

Daru925 responds:

Good evening VodouQueen, i hope this missive finds you well,

Thanks a lot for attending my bourgeoisie party and leaving a molecular level review!

The pluck is a noise i nonchalantly threw into a comb filter until it sounded like a "harpsichordulcimer" something^^
I agree i could work a lot more on the song, first time composing with violins, and if i do i'll make sure to incorporate all your precious feedback!

I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay at the manor, huhuhu!

Humblement,
Marquis Daru,

PS: It would seem i set the mansion on fire while writing this message, too much candles in this day and age.
Farewell, then.

This is a great idea, but too short as a complete piece in my opinion. I think the style is very interesting and captured well, now I would like to hear some more development. The question-and-answer style of the violin and cello is also really nice.
There are some timing issues which are quite obvious in this kind of style, when the short notes do not match the timing of the melody - this makes it sound quite unnatural to me, because real musicians would make sure that they hit certain points in the piece together.

Daru925 responds:

Thanks, i must say, i tried not to be too much on the grid, but i probably overdid it.
If it was electronic music, i would have spotted the timing inconsistencies, but not quite the case yet, with instruments i'm still discovering.
So thanks a lot for the pointers!

This kinda sounds like… a village that's recently been attacked by a powerful force of evil that destroyed their crops、kidnapped their princess、and burninated all the people in thatch roofed cottages!

Sorry… guess I kinda let my inner DM go a bit wild… You could make some great campaign music、ya know。

Daru925 responds:

After his bombastic villain entrance, marquis Daru sends his musicians away, draw a giant swiss knife, rolls a dice, tumbles in the marble stairs and impales himself on the underpaid cellist's cello. Critical failure.
As the mansion burns down in the dusk, your flabbergasted party heads to the tavern to proceed what just happened.
The beer is not so bad, and the villagers safe.
Oh wait, you forgot the princess...
