OVERRIDING: Maze of Mirrors

This song is the first of many. The first song I've made with vocals, the first song I've collaberated on and the first song of this series. Firstly, this song was original made with no link with this series. It was simply a guitar remake of one of the first songs I've ever made. It goes mostly untouched in this current arrangement. The only major additions being the end of the first repeat of the chorus and the end of the song. The surrounding instruments are based on previous melodies I've already made, apart from the main melody which I'd made up on the spot. The melody is relatively simple so that I'd be able to sing it (I still messed up though). The previous melody parts sounded much more dissonant originally. I was able to fix this by making them all sound like pianos, adjust their pitches then revert to their original instrument. The original drum part was rather laid back but felt a bit empty. I'd asked for a friend (a drummer and pianist) for some help with the part. They ended up creating a military like groove which fit right into the themes of the series. The hardest bit was figuring out how to add my singing. Lyric writing was supprisingly easy (lyrics for previous songs failed horribly). Singing was harder than expected because you couldn't tell how good/bad the take was in the moment. Additionally, I had to figure out how to process my vocals using Bandlab and Audacity. The end result isn't the best (I prefer an earlier take where I overlayed my voice repeatedly leading to a choir like effect, though it was much more choppy) with an obvious cut being audible part way through but it's good enough for this amature series. Overall I'd say the song took 7 days (not one after another) to make and the vocals another 7 days on their own.

Lyrics:

Some days, I remember not to laugh

at all the jokes in my head.

Some months, I remember my laugh

wasn't always so low pitched sounding.

Some years, I remember your laugh

now its become background noise

since,

my mind's in a maze of mirrors.
