This is what happens when I don't use a sample I can name the track after. I don't know how to name EDM songs without cool titular vocal samples :0

Not entirely sure what to think of the mix. My fiance and I just splurged on some new gear, including a $115 pair of Audio Technicas. While they don't compete with the Sennheiser HD 650s, I'm getting a much flatter response which is highlighting how over powered my highs can be. Mastering is such ass. Owning a diverse set of monitors and headphones is cost prohibitive but I would recommend producers save up for at least one NICE pair of headphones and one cheaper, flat response pair of cans. You never really know what others are hearing until you have some gear that's comparable to theirs.

A foot note, buying straight from the manufacturer is a nice gesture but if you buy from a distributor you can save hundreds. I splurged on headphones a couple of years ago and bought a pair of Sennhieser HD 650s. Amazon sells them at $300 while the cost from the manufacturer is $500. Don't buy music gear straight from the manufacturer, they need to make sure their distributors see a profit and as such will charge considerably more to convince consumers to buy their product from their partners instead. Granted, they'll always take your money, so buyer beware...

The reason I bring all this up, Tom and I are building a sound studio. We have a lot of cool gear in the mail from bass guitars to studio grade mixers to loop stations. The one piece of gear I'm most excited about though is the Alesis electronic kit. Haven't been able to set up the acoustic kit in a few years due to living situations so I'm very excited to finally drum again.

Huzzah for a studio space! That sounds like a major upgrade. I like how "full" (This is probably not at all the right word) the sound on this track is, like you really get this sense of all these little sounds whizzing back and forth, circling around you. It's pretty nifty.

Quarl responds:

It's not something I'd expect people would want to listen to but I'm glad you weren't overwhelmed. There exists a tendency to over-complicate things when just having fun. I kind of go overboard on panning automation when having fun too, which helps create those swirling environments. Think of the stereo-field in your headphones like a physical stage, with musicians on the left and on the right. The next time you here an instrument go from left to right or vice versa, pretend a musician is literally running across the stage with their instrument.

Panning can emulate movement and location so your choice of words were phenomenally accurate <3

LOVE this! guess i'm old then :(

sort of reminds me of a mix between afx and cheshyre. awesome work!

Quarl responds:

Love those two, and I'm also old sort of. A kid called one of my songs "oldschool/retro" last year and I'm still wearing that label like "I'M OLD, YES."

EDIT: I changed the song name, this conversation is now an artifact :'D
