Cutscene - Scamverse

I remember popping into the discord of my friends making this game and just watching them furnish the interior of the station. I was asking them about the general feel of things just to get the mood right for the music and I asked a question about how it should feel during cutscenes.I was told something along the lines of "It's just cutscene music so you don't have to do anything special" and that just sat a bit weird with me. Not to be mean or anything towards my friend because they're not familliar with the nuance of composing and tailoring music towards certain scenarios.

I explained that because there are people talking over the music, I can't make it too busy or "in your face" because that would distract the player towards the dialouge that's being presented to them. Since there's a lot of talking in their thesis I thought it was very important to emphasize that in the writing process.

While this tune is the shortest and simplest of the 3 that I made for the game, I think this one is my favorite. In the game, there's this stupid cat that's your sidekick and she was written as that annoying sidekick that fucks with the detective. The tone of dialouge is shifted ever so slightly towards the goofiness of this cat pun wridden creature and I felt that this track fit it perfectly. While I hate that little cat character I can at least pat myself on the back for a job well done with this track.

Even without context for the game or the characters talking you can kind-of imagine any two characters just casually talking over this track.

The form is just a two part A > B with a repeat of the second B to set up the track loop. A bit of variety on that B section keeps it from being too repetative I think.

A synthesizer playing arpeggios ontop of the piano playing long chords while the drum and bass are just chilling at the background doing their thing. Again, I don't want to have the music be front and center so holding things back and letting the game do it's job is the idea.

In hindsight I could have probably added a bit more development just incase the player reads slow or just leaves the dialouge frozen but it's too late for that already.
