I just got out of a really weird rut in my life and I really have no idea why I even let such things get to me but that dosen't matter anymore.

The date is around Febuary of 2021 and I was asked to do the sound effects and music for another game made by my friends for part 2 of their thesis. My only prompt was that it was about an overseas worker doing their thing trying to provide for their families back home kind of like diner dash but it's mostly house duties. Compared to the last one that was about an exploding volcano and all the animal friends burning their skin off this one was such a drastic change in tone.

It took place in England in modern times so I had to fit that mood. I knew that I wanted these pieces to be a lot simpler than the other game since it's just mundane life. From the get go I wanted it to have a solid bass tone with the drums supporting that with a very laid back beat. I also used that electric piano instrument because I just really REALLY like how it sounds.

The melody is being played by a clarinet from the SNES style instruments I have just because I liked how it sounds. In real life you don't really appreciate how good the clarinet is as an instrument. It has a HUUGE range with different tones and it sounds reaaal nice if you know how to use it. I think part of the perception is from Spongebob where Squidward just plays it like a loser. If you're a clarinet player and you're good at it, good job.

In terms of theory, the A section is a typical I Major > ii minor > iii minor (BbM > Cm > Dm) going up and down. It's really simple and it sounds good which helps sell that feeling I was going for.

The B section is a diatonic walk down from your IV chord by going Eb > BbM/D > Cm > Bb. On the repeat of that I try to add a bit of spice by having your third chord (Cm) turn into a Bbm/Db instead just to add a bit of tension before we close it out to a ii - V - I. It's worth saying that the Mother series specifically Earthbound influences me greatly. Pollyanna is one of my favorite songs of all time and I hold it very near and dear to my heart. This sequence is kind-of in that style which I really really dig.

I should also mention that I really like the I guess "breakdown" of the B section with the drums and bass just laying it down to give this section rhythmic interest. I've also forgot to mention the zippy synth in the back is just a saw wave included in my instruments. It adds a bit of texture with how it's arpeggiated but I also just like how it sounds.

This was the first song I wrote for the game and I really like it but at the time I was in a really weird place and I just couldn't get into it for some reason. This one eventually became the "theme" I guess of the game but I wasn't very happy with it when I wrote it.

As a side note, I was playing the Calamity Mod for Terraria while this whole project was going down so whenever I listen to songs from this project specifically I'm just transported back to making an underworld providence arena for me and my other friends.
