This cover was commissioned by MatterBoar for use in our movie reaction video of Jordan Peele's Us. I'm not super familiar with hip hop, though I do enjoy the genre casually in passing. So being commissioned to make a hip hop song was a bit of a challenge. I did make a few "for fun" attempts at hip hop before, but this was the first one that had to take itself seriously. The client wanted it to be spooky and pointed to the Us version as reference, but given this song was commissioned 4 days before the deadline, I'm not familiar with how to make hip hop let alone fuse that genre with cinematic horror music, and we didn't have any rappers lined up at the beginning, I decided to go with a more "chill" kind of spooky rather than "creepy" spooky.

MatterBoar pointed to two people who could be rappers: Mr. Tubby Sun and Marmal8. I asked Mr. Tubby Sun first, but it turns out he is not a rapper. He is a nice singer tho! He makes good music, too! Go check out his YouTube channel! ^_^

Marmal8 wasn't responding in the server at first, so I asked for rappers on the Newgrounds collab board and Facebook and didn't get anybody. Understandable since it was last minute. Then Marmal8 responded and sent a WIP of him rapping and singing the chorus and it sounded fantastic! We worked together on the song over a Discord call. He's a cool guy! He pointed out that I got a note wrong in the melody, he wanted to change the drums, and do the mastering.

MatterBoar suggested the song include some witch cackling and lots of Halloween-type sound effects to make the song feel more spooky, so Marmal8 asked voice actress BunnyGirl93 to record the witch cackling. After a few revisions, we got it!
