The Bill Jobs sample is from this song right here
I knew from the start that I wanted to do something complex for the final song of Vs Clock Spider, but at the start that's all I really knew, and at the time I had no real experience writing complex stuff. The very first attempt at this was trying to take the band Meshuggah's style and apply it to FNF, but given how FNF is, that didn't work in the slightest. Next band I looked to for inspiration was Dream Theater, which worked out a tiny bit better
The song's time signature is 26/4. Each measure of 26/4 contains one bar of 5/4, one of, 6/4, one 7/4 and one 8/4, but not necessarily in that order. The intro starts with 5+6+7+8, then at the first verse it becomes 7+6+8+5 and 8+5+7+6 so both 'rappers' evenly get 13 beats in each measure. That's as far as I'm gonna go for the moment.
As mentioned earlier, this was my first real experience with writing oddly-timed music. One specific regret I have is not making it so it resolves into a 4/4 pattern like Meshuggah does, which made charting this song for FNF a nightmare. But now that I know what and what not to do for this kind of stuff, I can do better complex songs in the future.
