The title "I Only Shine When Standing Your Reflection" is something I said to my boyfriend recently. We've been building up our lives off the grid, and have written about it a little. He's been such a huge source of my inspiration these last few years.
Decided to continue with my recent trend of merging IDM, liquid, future, gabber, and orchestral sounds because it makes me happy. The original WIP title "SIX" was a reference to the triple meter as most of the song is meant to be counted in a 6/8 swing but 3/4 will work too. My college thesis ten years ago revolved around producing dance music in stupid counts like 11/8 and 5/4 but a triple meter should feel familiar to anyone that understands the pulse of a waltz. It's unusual for dance tracks to sport off beat grooves, I just like toying with them in my relative obscurity.
Another obvious difference from typical dance genres are the rubato BPM shifts. That can be a huge turn off for DJs, never change your BPM or write outside 4/4. Don't do it. Never. Not even once. Tempo shifts and offbeat time signature are for sex addicted degenerates >:C
I've been sharing RSN files via google drive lately. If anyone is interested in learning how to use Propellerhead's Reason, you can download a trial version and open up this song file for closer inspection. All samples should be self contained, please let me know if anyone downloads it and has trouble opening the RSN. Would love to see more people composing music with Reason :)

hell yea. rly glad u got thru in ngadm! love this new cutesy IDM/breakcore kick you've been on the last few tracks. super snappy mix with lots of impact and - tho i think the snare transients are too aggressive, maybe bring the comp ratio down or something. so excited for more quarl tbh

Oh wow, this is a great song. I really like the contrast of the smooth and organic melody in duality with the incredible amount of variations and energic beats. In other words ; awesome!

So good! Such interesting, creative choices. It's all pretty outside the box, but that ending is kinda like waking up slowly from a dream as things become real again. I don't know if I'm doing a good job explaining how it made me feel, but it really worked for me. Well done, bravo
