This song is dedicated to my best friends Josh and AJ, who've always been there for me thru everything. I couldn't love them more. This is my favorite song I've ever written in my life, and I couldn't be more happy with it. It'll be on my next album and the gist of the lyrics is formatted like it's being told to a friend in a reflective sense about how people should enjoy life since in the grand scheme we're all just dust, so we might as well cherish the beauty. I love it. ~Reece

Lyrics~

Verse

We're all just little specs of dust, floating in an endless void

Yet life's minor inconveniences make us annoyed

A nostalgia trip I live in the past

Times of cable TV and games on flash

Search the rubble and spread the ash

A metaphor I have yet to catch

I saw the galaxy swirling in your eyes

As you pulled me from my demise

In your skull my dreams reside

The only one I can confide

Lay beneath a tree in grass

Watch shooting stars as they pass

The melodic hum of harmony

Like a disingenuous prophecy

Life is great with you as my friend

So let’s live it up until we ascend

Chorus

The universe will never wait

But you’re in charge of your own fate

Float through space and sink in time

A constant state of being prime

The stars remain when the world fades away

It’s up to you to carve your pathway

Your legacy can exceed kings

I know you’ll do great things

Verse

We live our lives always on display

So take the lead this is your play

Suck the stars out of the sky

And see the galaxy swirling in your eye

Drink the sap straight from the tree

Live for yourself sing your melody

You could be the greatest if you put the effort in

Masterplans unfold you just have to begin

Sing your tale and tell your song

Wrapped in vines pierced with birdsongs

Don’t give up it’d be such a waste

Of the potential you’ve been graced

The world will end we all will die

I'm glad you spend your time with I

Live this world not the afterlife

Claim the galaxy and live your life

Chorus

The universe will never wait

But you’re in charge of your own fate

Float through space and sink in time

A constant state of being prime

The stars remain when the world fades away

It’s up to you to carve your pathway

Your legacy can exceed kings

I know you’ll do great things

I like the upbeat mood at the beginning. The string samples sound pretty fake, but I like the crisp drums and clean mix. The spoken word vocals don’t quite work for me, though - I think part of the problem is that they aren’t calibrated to the beat very well. Have you tried quantizing the recording to the beat in your DAW? The lyrics themselves are really good, with a fun rhyme scheme and some evocative imagery. The instrumental track could use some more variety. In particular, it’s missing some bass tones, and some additional harmonies or instruments would be welcome. At times, the mix gets a bit distorted, probably because it’s too loud. The little staticky blips you can hear at 1:45 and other places are a good indicator of that. Most DAWs have some sort of gauge on the mixer that turns red if the audio output is getting overwhelmed by the signal - it’s called “clipping,” and it’s definitely something you want to avoid. That said, the guitar solo at around the 3-minute mark was a good idea, and the repetition of the chorus at the end helped give the piece a good sense of closure. Overall, I think the composition is what could use the most help here. The vocals could use some more careful editing, and the instrumental track isn’t really making use of the bottom part of the frequency range. Still, the upbeat mood, energy, lyrics, and rhythmic content are all pretty good. Keep at it, R0botSqu1d! :)

i think it's really sweet of you to dedicate a song to your friends. personally, i would probably just keep it as a gesture between me and them and not share it with the whole entire internet, because that would make it more special to me. you seem pretty deep into this so i figure i can't levy any criticism against your musicianship that you haven't heard before. i will say, as a professional audio engineer, that the choice to record the built-in speaker of the keyboard you're using strikes me as a bit odd - if it has a headphone jack you can probably frankenstein a guitar lead and some kind of adapter into a usable cable to record a clean line-out at the very least. if you haven't already, you could try using effects like compression and reverb to make your vocals sound more interesting i guess. you do you though, pal. hope you continue to improve in the future.

It's certainly a great gift for your friend, great ⊂ (・ ▽ ・ ⊂)just watch out for saturation haha.

R0botSqu1d responds:

Thank you so much for your feedback! That really means a lot to me and it genuinely made my day! But yeah, I've always sorta sucked at not over saturating audio xD but I'll def try to avoid it in the future!
