This really feels like it is inspired by the artwork, and it is a lovely song. Unfortunately, there is some severe audio clipping going on, for example around 1:30.
Entry to the 2021 AIM Contest, in the genre of... dystopian western?
Inspired by the wonderful @AnyGreenDeath's piece Nobody and Stranger Poster. I've been following his work for a bit now but coming across this piece really sparked something for me. The color work and the stories that came to mind just looking at the faces of these two characters really made me want to write something that captured the feeling of the piece (my experience of it any way).
It's the first time I've tried incorporating some elements of fiction in my song writing and I really loved the experience. Thanks again so much to AnyGreenDeath for being cool with my interpretting your work like this. Go follow the guy, his art rules.
Track wise, it's synths, banjos, a drum sequencer, recorded field sounds and some doofy reverb and distortion thrown in for good measure. That repeating echoey synth at the upper end of the mix is the same one I used throughout Fake Sun with a different sequence.
Almost ended up abandoning the whole instrumental for another until I accidentally played it sped up and then built the track up from there. Might be some things being slightly off tune wise because of that but I think I got it squared off decently enough...
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FRONT PAGE (and to whoever read this far through the description, you kinda rule too ^.^)
Lyrics:
No I ain't going home just yet
I'm too young for your regrets
Right where I'm supposed to be
Nobody here right next to me
Always know your escape route
Don't get close on the way out
I'm right where I'm supposed to be
Nobody here right next to me
You talk about Strangers
but I've known you my whole life
Roll on into the ghost town
haunted soul and holy ground
3 months to the day
Stranger's gone, Nobody stayed
I'm not alone
just been drifting for so long
We're not alone
it's just better not to haunt you in your home
it's just better not to haunt you in your--

I love the melody!!!
Just aaaaawesome, The lyrics got me good! Very good to sing a long, and the track overall is pleasant.
Cannot get over how amazingly this captures the feel of the poster. This is just phenomenal! Sharing this with anyone who has ears.
Thanks so much!
Oh this is cool. I would have not picked banjos and used them like this but they work so well. I think they're a little too much (either too loud or they ring out too much) but they still fit really well.
It's was a little experiment trying to get them to sit right in the mix, but I really loved how they ended up playing on the off beat. Thanks so much for the review, dood!
