This was one of my favorite bits, the voice acting from everybody, humor, writing, uh, just *Chef's kiss* Bootyful! :D
Sometimes, all a man wants when he gets home from a day of hard work, is to wallow in someone else's misery. Someone who said man can look down on, because there's no way their frailties and foibles could ever be a reflection of man's own problems, right?
Right?
This skit was part of this year's first VA Collab, and an unexpected surprise in terms of production: I was sent the voice files recorded by @Kalieth, @chitstain and @NickSenny plus the music to back up the 'Belching Bob' section with the request to turn it into something publishable. So once my snickering stopped after a couple of days, I started thinking about the glue needed to stick their performances together. It sounded like a the basis for a really cheesy, pulpy TV show, bearing the title of the concept for which the recordings were submitted: "My Strange Addiction".
But of course a TV show needs an audience, some context, so I started thinking about how to bookend the show, and from there the story unfolded itself very naturally. I worked out a viewer, a presenter and some other shows that would zip by as our protagonist skipped through the TV channels and some music to accompany everything. And for additional dynamics I included the protagonist's wife - coincidentally voiced by my own wife.
And so a simple question became an amazing opportunity to experiment with music, sound design, voice acting and production all in one go. Big thanks to the actors mentioned above for causing my brain to spark in just the right way, and for the NGVAC management - Nick plus @VoicesByCorey and @JoshDytonVO - for putting their trust in me. Incredibly excited to see what part 2 of this year's collab will bring...
Enjoy!
