[edit 19/4: mixing changes]

inspired by keepwalking's First Strike:

other inspirations:

the Pride FC theme

numerous tracks from the Valkyria Chronicles OST

one thing i noticed is that in film, or even anime, the music for dramatic/tense scenes are in 3/4 (or 6/8, depending on how you look at it)

or maybe it's just frequency illusion, since i've been writing in 6/8 so often

The atmosphere at the beginning sets the mood nicely, and the crisp strings :20 and pads that come in later combine for a nice warm texture overall. Nice job with the percussion too, although you started overusing the crashes a bit at around 1:30. After that, the piece feels a tad repetitive. I would've liked to hear some stronger melodic content later on to drive the piece home, and also for you to develop some of the string riffs a little more beyond the initial patterns. Still, it has a nice bright tone, good sound design, and a crisp and clear mixdown. Keep at it, Yoshiii343! ^^

It's quite dramatic! Sawing away on those strings helps create that urgent, impending expectation. I wonder how it would sound with some nice deep bells where those crash cymbals are? Maybe not switch 'em, they could be layered or something.

This audio kind of has the "shell-shocked" watching-the-tragedy-as-it-unfolds energy. Quite fitting.

Really quiet mix.

Yours strings are hard panned to the left and drums hard panned to the right. It’s generally not good practice to hard pan I wouldn’t push it past 20-30%.

Crash cymbals are too loud

I’m happy you’re using a non 4/4 time signature

Yoshiii343 responds:

>really quiet mix
funny you say that, the mix sounds really loud for me.
maybe my ears are shot

>strings being panned left and drums right
none of the instruments are hard panned (except the cellos, at 20%)

but yeah, they do sound hard panned. strange.

This is pretty sweet man. I think it captures the scene pretty well, although I listened to it before looking at the picture and after and I had a flashback to Drakengard on the PS2 on my first listen.

It is a bit repetitive, but if this was in a videogame for a scene like this you probably wouldn't notice. My only other issue really Is that the cymbals are way too loud. I didn't know like if you were gonna bring em in real loud like that and then fade em back a bit for the next parts, but they stayed that loud.

I can totally hear a synth solo over this in my head, would be totally rad.

Great job man!
