This description will be long.

I tried, for April Fools, to make a song that sounded very similar to a combination of my previous songs. That didn’t come to fruition by April Fools though so I repurposed it for an Easter track to release today. The synths used I have all used before, but granted I don’t think I ever tinkered with their sounds (EQ and cutoff, resonance, KBL TRK, etc) as much as I did here. I never tried that thing where you have a slow, legato melody followed by a jumpy one, which is what I tried to do in the second half. I wanted it to be longer but felt I had accomplished everything I wanted with just 1:30. The main reason I chose Mississippi is because Missouri, all four of them, were the main inspiration behind this song and the states are similar culturally, economically, and geographically. The melody, as always, is original. I have tried remixes in the past and even on this account (Pennsylvania, Texas, and Maine, to be specific) but they are the exception instead of the rule. Enjoy!

Edit: I once again kind of fixed the song. By reducing the reverb of the drums in the beginning and adding a not abrupt outro, I made it much better than before. I made other, more minor changes, but I think you’d enjoy it more now.

Edit: I reduced the reverb on the drums in the beginning to almost nothing. I also changed out the kick drum and panned things differently to where it sounds much better than before.

Edit 2: here on June 9, 2023, I have suddenly realized how bizarre the structuring of this song is. Ok there’s a spooky intro, followed by a verse(?) section with supersaws using a melody that literally only plays during this section, and then a chorus type thing with two halves to it where it ramps up in the second half with another melody, and then the outro and then the song ends. What?!

Also the transition at 0:38 is genuinely one of my best ever, even to this day lol

Sorry for the late response. I like the very ominous beginning (Start-00:24) it really brings a lot of tension. Like you said, "I tried, for April Fools, to make a song that sounded very similar to a combination of my previous songs." Sounds a lot like your previous songs but I think this still deserves its own ground. Very repetitive melody (WHich isn't a bad thing since I think it fits with this piece. I see you also went with a 3/4 approach like my song "Rays of the sun" or whatever I called it. I really love the electro waltz feel of it. The ending is very abrupt and I think it would have complimented the piece better if it were to soften down a little at the end to give it a more concluding feel. I know this isn't really my ground to speak since I have done the same thing. Very good piece overall. I look forward to your next state.

I’d argue that, while the ending is pretty bad since I finished this song yesterday, the flow of the track between sections is in desperate need of fixing. I’ll have to go fix that eventually and try to add on a section at the end to make it feel like an ending. Yeah, it does seem a lot like an electro waltz, unfortunately that’s not a genre so I just went with the generic “trance”.

Not sure why, but this melody makes me feel like I'm at the Kremlin. I hope that's a compliment hahaha.

50Steaks responds:

Probably because it was inspired by an old song I made that was inspired by the Russian (soviet really) style of music.
