[Rushdown Style Melodic Dubstep] JoeStasi - Blossom (Inspired by Chime, Blosso etc.)

Spring is arriving and the flowers are blossoming.

Melodic dubstep track inspired by various tracks on the amazing dubstep label "Rushdown" which is owned by Chime. Experimented in the second drop with some "Colour Trap". Any feedback is much appreciated!

I like the bright tone at the beginning and the chimes. The echo-y synths at :14 and the build-up :27 are both enjoyable. The drums are a bit over-compressed, and the samples themselves sound pretty generic and overpowering. The drop at 1:09 was enjoyable - I like the funky mid-range bass and rhythmic content. The texture remains pretty thin throughout the piece, and the chord progression is pretty cliche. The vocal samples are a nice touch, and help keep the texture feeling fresh and varied. The filtering before the second drop at 2:45 was a fun detail, and I appreciate the variety in the second drop compared to the first. I still would’ve liked to hear some stronger melodic content and a fuller texture for a lot of the piece, as well as more of a proper outro, but as it is the piece keeps me engaged pretty well. The mixing, sound design, mood, and rhythmic content are probably my favorite elements of the piece. Keep at it, Joe Stasi! :)

lots to like about this! great chords, nice drops, tight reverb control, sweet sound design. really love the variety of tones that you've got in this. my main issue is that the kick and snare are struggling to push through despite the aggressive sidechaining - i think all of your synths and basses have to come down in volume during the drops before you hit the master limiter, right now it just lacks energy a little. the high pitched arps at 2:03 are generally too loud anyway. that "blossom" vocoder sample feels dry and muddy compared to the other instruments and sfx - i'd roll of the lows on that, pump a bit of whitenoise in the carrier signal, and lay off chorus/unison/detune effects until after the vocoding happens. would be good to have a proper dj-friendly wind down on the ending instead of the radio-edit too. apart from those minor issues the mixing is very clean, and my only real concern is the master. fantastic work!

Wobbles work super well in the first half, and love the 2:02 drop! The mix sounds very bright though, makes it tiring at loud volumes. Bass seemed high on the scale too, was missing a deep sub most of the time. Other than that nice dubstep!
