"C'est le Début."
S.S. Normandie (launched 29 October 1932, scrapped October 1946) was a French ocean liner owned and operated by the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (French Line). She was the most powerful steam turbo-electric-propelled passenger ship ever built, and constantly rivalled Britain's RMS Queen Mary in the Atlantic for the Blue Riband. World War II forced the Normandie to be seized in New York, and renamed USS Lafayette, awaiting conversion to a troopship. She unfortunately caught fire in 1942, and capsized. She was eventually raised, but she was deemed too costly, and was scrapped.
Finally, I did something that isn't the Olympic-class or SS United States (lol). I wanted to branch out to other liners and try my hand on them, and Normandie really caught my attention! Her story was really interesting as an ocean liner buff, and seeing her interiors fascinated me so much to the point that I had to depict her in a gijinka.
Confident, elegant, fast. Normandie was the ultimate French liner.
