How ironic that one of the most interesting characters in all of Transformers has the most generic name any bot could have. On top of that, it happens to be the name of a sub group of G1 Autobots. So, yeah, I don't think a name change is too out of the question.
Something tells me it's his sacrifice that finally gets Lady Megs & Optimus to start working together to save their race. Megs even agrees to be tried for her 'crimes', under the condition that they remember Slash.
'Tell his tale to those who ask, tell it truly, the bad, along with the good, and let him be judged accordingly...the rest...is silence'.
