I wanted to take a different perspective on the theme. I decided to draw a unique piece, portraying two brave fighters facing off. It was to demonstrate a situation in which a dragon and a cat could seem to be on equal footing in a battle.
On the left we have a dragon warrior, standing resolute and bracing herself, and on the right is the fierce cat warrior- lacking the patience of the dragon- going all out!
Without being my initial intention, both the dragon and the cat can be compared to asian legends.
The appearance of the dragon is similar to the serpent that Benten, the Japanese goddess of the sea, is often seen riding.
The cat on the other hand was close in relation to the Chinese goddess Li Shou’s description. Li Shou was the original caretaker of Earth, protecting crops and harvests from evil spirits.
From this perspective the painting takes on a whole new meaning as a battle of Gods.
