The initial sketch phase of what I am doing for the Dragon Ball Collab 2024 made by DegoDraws
I was originally struggling a lot to find inspiration because I couldn't find a ng character that fit in what I wanted originally to do, M-Bot would have been the most obvious choice as I find him suitable in many combat situations found in the series, but still I struggled to the point I was almost about to quit (also because I thought I was late but I discovered I still have time to contribute). Looking through the tag though I found inspiration and I decided to go for my most favourite character of the series: Gohan. He's performing one of five basic stances of modern wushu, with the right hand being in gou shou (hook hand) and the left one is zhang (palm) because I find it fitting for a character like him plus dragon ball is set in a Chinese environment since the original work this anime is based on comes from China (in future I will talk about the original Journey To The West done by Xuanzang born Chen Hui or Chen Yi, also known by his Sanskrit Dharma name Mokṣadeva in one of my many journal blogs).
Everything will be simple from the overall composition to the background but I am inspired to continue at least^^
EDIT: I am adding some backgrounds to find the one I like the most.
EDIT 15/12/2024: I found my favourite bg to use.
The pose is 馬步 or Ma Bu ("horse stance"). It's a fundamental stance found in nearly all styles of wushu and it's one of the five stances of contemporary wushu. This stance typically begins with the feet apart slightly wider than shoulder-width. The feet are parallel, facing straight forward, and the knees are bent at 90 degrees making the thighs parallel to the ground. The torso sinks down as if suspended by a plumb line and the sacrum is curved forward and the coccyx is tucked in and under, thus flattening the arch in the lower back. Equal weight is given to each foot (50/50), making for a very stable stance. Ma Bu is frequently used for endurance conditioning and to build up knee and hip strength for added stability. As a means of testing such endurance, many kung fu masters require students to be able to hold Ma Bu for at least five minutes before being allowed to learn the forms of a style.
fun fact: different styles of kung fu often teach variations on the horse stance. For instance, in Fujian White Crane, the knees are bent inward and almost touching, unaligned with the toes.
