The higher selves of Ray and Vin. Ray knows that this is who he truly is. Vin does too on some level, but he of course doubts it. They've incarnated on earth as the person of Ray and Vin to help people, most notably Joel Trustworthy. Faith's job is to help people explore new possibilities/confront the unknown with an open heart. Doubt's job is the dispell propaganda and test assumptions. This is reflected in their human being counterpart's personalities.
