Last year, DeviantArt published a new tutorial that teaches artists how to draw a tiger to celebrate the Year of the Tiger. There are lots of different fictional tigers in media, but the one I chose to draw was Rintoo from the animated children's television series Ni Hao, Kai-Lan, because he's the cutest fictional tiger I know. Unlike most tigers, Rintoo looks very sweet, friendly, and cuddly. In fact, his show has lots of likable and adorable characters, especially Kai-Lan herself, and I really like their colorful and charming animesque character designs. The show is also supportive of Chinese culture and gives viewers glimpses into the lives of Chinese-American children and their cultural differences, as well as fostering a respect for those differences. It also isn't afraid to talk about issues such as dealing with anger, making mistakes, and helping others who are hurt, and it has plenty of positive messages, like calming down, being patient, and being nice to your friends. I believe there should be more children's shows like Ni Hao, Kai-Lan, because it's very self-aware and teaches kids how to handle problems they might face in their everyday lives. It's a shame it got canceled after only two seasons, but I hope there will be more shows like it that both children and adults alike can enjoy.
