La Pascualita is perhaps, without a doubt, one of the most mysterious and intriguing icons of Mexican culture. At first glance it looks like an ordinary mannequin, but if we get closer we will notice the presence of a peculiar "natural" appearance, so to speak. Today there are several sources that affirm the context of this, in its entirety only being rumors inherited and said by the same local population through generations over time. However, they all come to a single conclusion, which is that the motionless figure was a living person of flesh and blood.
Summarizing the legends told, initially this character had to do or was directly related to the gowns store called "La Popular", located in the small state of Aguascalientes. It is said that towards the end of the 1920's, she would be the daughter of the owner of the establishment, consisting of a beautiful woman on the verge of marriage. However, during the preparations prior to the event, the bride experienced a fatal accident (with the bite of a poisonous insect or cold-blooded murder), unfortunately she died instantly. Then her mother, unable to bear the loss, had her embalmed in order to immortalize her for posterity (where many speculate that the corpse was transported to Paris, or somewhere in Mexico). From one moment to another in the 1930's, the doll we all know appeared in the store window.
Since I have said so, the facts related are mere speculation and clearly there is no stable source on the internet. Even so, her background will still haunt anyone who dares to appreciate her for what she really is, not for her intimidatingly frightening silhouette, but for her unchanging and hauntingly ethereal beauty.
