Tricephaly Study Pt. 1

Share

Study sketch for the design on the issue of having three heads. This conflicts pretty strongly with my intent to keep it streamlined- unless I keep them fairly conformal. The result of that is this, with two lesser heads that tuck up against the main one for flight.

Due to the lack of a braincase, the heads are lighter- and this in turn has knock-on effects that allow for a lighter neck and so on. The removal of ear and sinus cavities has a similar effect and basically result in a profile that is nothing but bone, muscle, and an underslung esophagus that straightens out when the mouth opens for breath attacks.

This in turn was brought on the issue by the human form having asymmetrical facial damage, which I consider to be somewhat iconic- the left eye being essentially replaced with a flashlight. This didn't look too great on a single, Draconic head though, so I had the idea to have the human form facial damage be reflective of damage across multiple heads- with the left one being entirely destroyed and replaced with mechanical parts. It also just looks pretty sick.

Incidentally this is also good for a sona character. It's always been in my fluff text for Dragons that duplicate appendages come on as a result of critical embryonic damage- the body attempting to generate new parts because it's convinced the originals aren't viable, even though this turns out to be wrong when hatching and now the Dragon just has a bunch of heads, wings, legs, or tails. IRL I was basically born dead so that's a nice parallel to tap into.

I'll probably detail this more later, but I need to work on the wing design and think out the integument. Also, still haven't decided on colors.
