Effects of object on people while the game is active in a Sega Genesis console and being played by someone

It should be noted that all of the effects get worse/more severe with prolonged playtime

While playing I have observed a few things, lets start with the sounds I have heard while playing. When the cartridge Is active inside the console there can be a sound of scratching, banging, or knocking coming form another part of the house. One a few occasions I heard the sound of static right beside one of one of my ears. It was super jarring. Now onto the things I saw while playing. Sometimes I could swear I saw something like blurry red silhouette of a person just outside my field of vision. But when I try to look at it, it vanishes.

It should be noted that the hallucinations become more frequent/vivid when played at night. Even more so when the room is completely dark.

(Color pallet discoloration)

This effect can manifest itself in a few ways. The main one seen while playing is a slight desaturation in level tiles

The other is a complete mismatch of what colors are supposed to be loading. This mostly results in over saturated parts of the level that are hard to look at.

(Missing NPC's and game objects)

While playing sometimes objects that are supposed to load in do not. This can result in levels where only a few enemies or an item box is missing, but other times the entire level will be empty. On rare occasion the sign post or boss at the end of a level will not spawn causing a soft-lock requiring the player to restart the game.

(Audio errors)

These are a lot less severe than all the other errors but should be recorded nonetheless. The most common one is audio being pitched down or made slower than usual. Another common error is the audio being missing entirely. On some occasions there is what sounds like to be a new song playing? it could be pulling from an unused song in the game data. The song in question sounds like a piano or organ playing a deep, slow and droning melody.

(Damage to hardware)

when playing for prolonged periods of time sometimes damage to the console, controllers, wires, or the television being used occurs. The most common one is electrical burns on vital parts of the console making it inoperable. Several Sega genesis/Mega Drives from every region where used to test the game cart all had the same results. It is also worth noting that the cart appears the be region free. Another occasional event is the controllers malfunctioning i.e. buttons stop working, delayed input, and total loss of controller functionality. Now the most interesting thing is what happens to televisions while someone plays the game. Unfortunately I only had one TV an old CRT for testing but luckily the thing never gave out. The main part that was damaged was the screen. More specifically just the glass was being effected. The screen would accumulate this black ash or soot(?) that I cannot quite identify. over time It seems to take random shapes like it looked like blobs of static being physical manifested. I could wipe off the stuff but it always came back.

Personal Account

“To be honest while it is fun playing researcher I have no idea what I’m doing or what I have in my possession. When I first found it I, of course like anyone else would just thought it was just a normal copy of the sonic 1. Though I had no idea that I had just purchased something beyond my understanding. When I discovered that something was wrong I decided that I had to record all of the activity and what it was capable of. Though I’m sure some of you are wondering why? “Why do all this knowing your disrupting something?” Well my logic behind my decisions was that this might be the only tangible proof of some kind of afterlife or ghosts, stuff like that.

So what am I supposed to do? just through it away? Destroy it? why would I ever pass up an opportunity like this. Though that was really shortsighted and in the moment thinking. I gradually realized the reality of the situation. The most obvious one being who would believe me and my evidence? There are so many ways to fake these kinds of things nowadays that no one would have believed me. It didn't help either that when ever I tried to dump the rom and play it on an emulator or on a separate flash cart it was just the normal game. There was really nothing I could do about the situation. So eventually my tests on the cart and its effects ended. Though this decision was influenced by a mix of my motivation to continue fading, and something that happened about a week after I started prodding the cartridge. While things like what I’m about to describe had happened in the past this was the most intense incident of its kind that had ever happened. there was nothing else like it that had happened before.

It was around 2am when I woke up to a chilling feeling. It was like I was sleeping in a walk in freezer the cold was unbearable. I wanted to get up but I couldn’t manage to move the muscles in my body. The other feeling I had was it was like a pressure the same type of pressure you get when your having a panic attack a deep pit in your chest you cant get out. I wasn't sure what was happening until the obvious conclusion hit me in the face. It was the cartridge. What ever was inside was doing something I think It might have been trying to kill me so I would stop disturbing it with my tests. That's the best conclusion I could come up with, its anyone's guess really. I tried look at my dresser where I had set it before I went to bed. But there was just a void… just… darkness, darkness, and more darkness. After a while I could move my body again and I struggled out of the room it took everything in my body to get out. I limped and struggled my way to the bathroom down the hall. While on the way to the bathroom I vomited, it felt like I was going to die right then and there. My legs getting weaker my head becoming lighter, but I made it to the bathroom. When I looked into the mirror I was so pale. My skin was such a ghostly white… I'll remember the image how i looked in the mirror for the rest of my life… After that I sat down on the toilet to tried and recover and make a plan on what to do. I couldn’t think of any thing and soon gave into the urges to pass out and I fell asleep.

I decided that the tests had to conclude immediately after that. In the morning after I got up feeling much better and tucked the cartridge away in my attic. I needed to put it somewhere far away from me. I needed to put it somewhere it could rest undisturbed. While the cartridge is still in my possession I will not be messing with it anytime soon. It has become heavily apparent to me that I am messing with forces beyond my understanding.”
