I love cross-hatching so dang much. it makes everything just a bit uneasy by default, and magnifies the grotesque, which in turn makes the situation more otherworldly but still oddly relatable.

Petaly's vomiting ichor, their face taut yet melting, with eyeballs falling everywhere due to losing their composure. And yet, the following panels contextualize this behavior, revealing the situation without so much as a word.
After the outburst of what to us is Nonsense, Flowery's jaw drops. They're nailed to the spot, still holding the same pose, tears waiting to form as they watch Petaly go. If there were any insults of Petaly's own in that diatribe, they either fell second to the rest of it, or cut Flowery to their core. "I didn't know it would hurt you this way. It was all in good fun! I promise. I'm sorry."

The juxtaposition, between the Strange & Horrible and the Real Tragedy of unintentionally hurting a friend's feelings, is superb.

Moving on, I like how Petaly resembles a Dr. Seuss character where Flowery resembles a 1930s cartoon. They're both distortions of the original Flowey, but different aspects of him (one being his "somewhat smarmy well-meaning showman" persona, and the other the Horror that his existence actually is). Together, these things make them peas in a pod. I have learned they are from two different artists, but the way they're both repped here meshes their existences fluidly. It made them seem like a duo, of sorts, in the sense that they would be outside of the show Flowery is putting on.

As someone who had absolutely no context going in, this particular Dark World was engrossing. I love that the main characters are barely even in frame. They're just as much an audience to this as we are. Great stuff!
