Not found outside of the Bravo Echo Epsilon Section, Apids are a seldom seen species.

In this case this Apid is of the Research Director calibre.

As far as command staff go, sure they're command staff and have the appropriate training, but as far as the RnD department goes, everyone goes their own way regardless of what anyone tells them.

Of course this isn't to diminish the pure intellect likely contained within, Explosives, Robotics, Nanites and Xenobiological fields are nothing to scoff at and anyone in this position is likely at least adept at all of them.
