Quaxly final evolution concept

Share

Hi there! So, the new pokemon games are releasing soon, and I'm pretty sure the evolutions of the starters have already leaked at this point ROFL. So, I wanted to show off my concept for what I thought an evolution to Quaxly could be like. I did not do a middle one, sorry, I just jumped straight to the final one. I actually ended up doing this sketch and description a long time ago, but never really released it. I figured now would be a good time! Also PLEASE do not attempt the read the information on the page itself, it is very small, and that was my mistake. I have written out out here instead! So feel free to read up on any additional information about Avaneer below! Tell me what you think!! I would love to hear your thoughts.

Apologies in advance, as I cannot really draw in pokemon art style, so my sketch is a little odd for pokemon standards LOOOOOL

AVANEER, THE NAVIGATOR POKEMON.

Throughout its days of traveling with trainers who have helped guide it well, Avaneer has developed fantastic leadership skills. While it may appear to be strict in the eyes of younger pokemon, Avaneer mean well and tend to put their focus towards guiding a good team effort. They seek to be in charge not due to a power dynamic, but the confidence that their intelligence and combat abilities are up to the task. They hate being alone for long periods of time, and often seek out the opinions of other fully evolved pokemon for battle direction when herding their flock. Good leaders don't just lead, they create other leaders in the process; That is their motto. It is not uncommon to find Avaneer assisting their trainers in battle navigation as well, assigning different parts of the team against the opposition. They are both strong flyers and skilled divers; Honing both of these assets to form rescue squads for both people and pokemon alike who have the misfortune of being lost at sea.

ANATOMY INFO:

Plumage on head resembles various longer military styled hates.

Collar resembles that of a mallard duck.

Scuff around shoulders droops over in the form of both plumage and military styled squared shoulders.

Pattern markings on the tummy are to have slight ocean patterns.

Tail appears to be that of a reptile, while in reality its shaped partially like that of an anchor; Most of Avaneer's muscle and fat is stored within this part of the body, helping it to steer when both diving and flying.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

They love getting compliments from their trainers, ex; "Great work out there" It lets them know their on the right track.

Their favorite food is Magikarp. While most pokemon despise Magikarp for its hard exterior, and lack of tenderness, thanks to Avaneer's sharp beak, the flesh breaks off very easily and is rich in vitamins.

They will often let small pokemon rest on their shoulders if they are tired.

They love challenging pokemon larger than themselves, not out of maliciousness, but as a means to learn more in terms of fighting opponents with different body types.

They sometimes will reward pokemon that serve after them with berries and other goods if they feel as if they deserve it.

Avaneer don't just look out for their own kin, they feel a strong sense of family towards other bird pokemon in general, and won't hesitate to preen the feathers of those who they think need help combat-wise.

While most of their weight is evenly distributed, their tails are easily the heaviest part of their bodies. It isn't uncommon to find Avaneer using their tails for everyday purposes, and they have no problem controlling this massive limb due to being in good physical shape; However the weight and muscle mass of the tail can be quite uncomfortable at times. As a result, they take great comfort in being pet in that particular area.

LMAOOOO OMG XD

For a split second I almost thought this was Rayman from the thumbnail lol! Anyways, I really love your concept! It feels very fresh and original in comparison to previous Pokémon. Or we’ll, as far as I know as admittedly my knowledge of Pokémon past Gen 5 is kinda hazy, so I’m not 100% sure if there really is a similar Pokémon that exists already. But still, you did really good job on this, especially with the detailed description of the Pokémon!

IrisOfTheRepliforce responds:

Thank you very much!

LOL in terms of Rayman, funny thing, a LOT of the friends I showed this to pointed out that it looks like him ^_^; I have spent so much time just sketching Rayman, cause he’s one of my favourites, to the point where he kind of taps into art unrelated to him. Rayman’s head REALLY resembles a duck, so I will admit I did use him as a reference when making this concept, it was convenient since I am so used to drawing him. Happy accident.

As for the pokemon itself, my concept is insanely simple, but has not been done in its entirety in a game before. Simply put, I wanted to make a pokemon based off of leadership. Now, many pokemon would make fantastic leaders, but I thought it would be perfect for a starter to adopt this role. It makes sense, since they would develop these skills from their trainers to begin with, and when they evolve, learn to put good use of what they have learnt in battle and every day life.

I also wanted to find a good balance between a humanoid and non humanoid beast. A lot of starters as of recent generations are VERY human in their designs. It isn’t a bad thing, but I personally think there are much better ways to show growth than just making the pokemon appear to be more human. That’s why I wanted to have a bit of a mix of the two; Non human anatomy with human traits (such as the plumage on the head resembling a hat, and having a bit more of a comprehensible personality) I took a lot of inspiration from other bird pokemon when constructing this.

At the end of it all, pokemon character design is INSANELY subjective, because we all have different things we want to see in both their appearance, their roles and personality. My design here for example may appeal to some people, and others may not want to see this kind of pokemon as a starter evolution, and that’s totally okay too!

Anyways sorry for the overly long response LOL I’m glad ya liked my concept ^_^
