Marching in the snow, stepping on ice
We can't even tell road from river
The horses are beaten, but we can't leave them
Just what is this place? It's all enemy country
Oh well, if we breathe a little bravery
I'll only ask for little: two of your cigarettes

Felt inspired after watching some clips of Golden Kamuy, plus I'm a history and gun nerd/geek, so I decided to draw this: a Japanese soldier, walking in the unforgiving cold in the hills of Manchuria, China; he's trying to fing his company, luckily without having to fight those Russian gaijin soldiers.
It's based on those woodblock ukiyo-e Japanese paintings from the Russo-Japanese War, with a bit of my artstyle to give it a lil' original taste.
That's all! :)

You're right, Russia lost in the end, however it inspired many Japanese artists and musicians to do more art and music romanticizing war, to encourage the folk to join in the ranks and die for the Emperor. However, the clash of this new kind of warfare also made the horror and true reality of war more apparent, which inspired many songs and poems about those forementioned themes, cuz Japan has that kind of deep and unique honor and spiritual thing engraved in their psyche.
