A project for a whole new line of children media was planned, with toys, TV series, movies and even theme parks.
The story would be of a group of friendly monster who help and protect children in relatable situations sprinkled with a fantastical element to it to teach moral and life lessons.
But after pilot movie was released to a catastrophic reception, the entire project got canned and forgotten by most.
Still, some of the toys got sold before being removed from the shelves.
One of them was a plushie of Ruffus, the Sleep Monster.
Perhaps it was due growing together with his owner or maybe his original creator had added something more to him that, while never went through the movie and show, stayed in him, but he's far from what could be considered appropriate for a series aimed towards children.
I don't remember from where the idea for him came, but it wasn't from Teddy (I found the movie mid at best), but I can't deny that I had some "The Care Bears" influence while at it. I also accept that I don't know much about sewing plushies, so I'm probably going to do some work on him on a future updated ref sheet. I also decided to leave it open if he "gained life one day" or was like one of the toys from Toy Story.
Still, love him, he's a fun character.
