I've barley ever made an attempt with backgrounds so I decided to start.

I started out with a thumbnail for composition and contrast. Once I was happy with the angle and composition I enlarged the thumbnail and began speed painting in some values to define distance and palette using different brush softness's to define distance and form. I added some lighting effects and strategic blur to push the depth. And finally, I contrast and color corrected.

Done in Krita about 30 Minutes.
I plan on doing a lot more of these because I think it's the most I've enjoyed a piece in a while.
