The "RX" (℞) symbol which is used for medical prescriptions is commonly believed to either have come from the Latin word for "recipere." However, some people hypothesize that it is actually derived from the Egyptian Eye of Horus (𓂀), or from the astronomical symbol for Jupiter (♃). In the middle ages, it was commonly believed that the planets could directly influence patients' health, and Jupiter's size made it seem especially potent in this regard.

Originally, just I wanted to show a wise owl doing science. After I had already drawn the owl holding up the test tube, I noticed the different possible puns here; owl-chemist, beak-er. In some parts of the world, "alchemist" is still used to refer to someone working a pharmaceutical profession.

Of course, a responsible pharmacist in real life should never triumphantly thrust a test tube into the air, especially not without proper eye protection or gloves!
