Golpherra Creation #10!

Share

This was it. This was when I found the optimal way to animate the way I do in Photopea!

This is when I moved from .pngs for body parts, to the incredible file format of .svg for them instead. I exported the morphshapes from Combat Tournament with JPEXS as .svg files to use for animating, and opening one of the morphshapes as a project in Photopea revealed that the body parts as an .svg format have a bone inside of them.

This opened a whole new world of possibilities for my character to be animated like!

The way I began making this still idle for Golpherra (and what would be the case for some of the animations I make from this point onward), was to create a 3763px by 3302px project (the one I animate on), then open the morphshapes I wanted to use for the project as their own project, then paste the layers of the morphshapes into the main project. I would then just manipulate the body parts to my liking, and then change the color of them to look white. Then I add in the beanie and golf club and put them in their places. If this were an animation, I would be doing the same things as I would with the animations before, duplicating folders and making them frames, but now with these new morphshapes to use.

Unlike the three characters from Combat Tournament, she actually holds her weapon in her hands in her idle animation, unlike it not being there, like with Homerun Bat, or behind her back, like with Double Range. I did this so there's some variety when compared with the three's idle animations, and as not to be too similar to any one of them. I was thinking of putting it behind her back, but then I thought about golf bags. That, I did not want to include with her character. So, I stuck with her holding her golf club in her hands.

This made it into the unreleased CT game. This was, surprisingly, not the first thing added for Golpherra into the game. It was the second thing, the first thing being her first attack of her neutral combo. At the time, every other movement option other than standing still used placeholder animations using Mr. Slaptastic's animations for them, such as jumping and dodging.

I'm glad I found a more effective way to pose my character. And I would take this to the next level with animating like this in her next attack animation!
