One fateful Sunday morning in Roman Palestine, the Mary Magdalene is cradling her baby while mourning her husband's recent departure. Little does she expect he is ready to rejoin her and their child in a way she could have never imagined.
I based the composition of this image on an old painting from the early 20th century (dated sometime before 1923), which had the resurrected Jesus sneaking up on Mary. Of course their child is an element I added myself, but most people may have heard of the general idea sometime in the recent past.
I am not religious at all, so for me drawing this was like drawing a scene from ancient mythology. But I wanted it to be something bittersweet that could be appreciated by Christians and non-believers alike.
