What If: The Anthro Transformation

Share

Therianthropy: Human transformation into an animal or hybrid. Essentially, like werewolves, but not limited to wolves.

Many years ago, I dabbled in this "furry/anthro/funny animal" art style. Partly because of my interest in animals, but I suspect it was to avoid learning to draw realistic humans. Some of the themes stayed from that, but highly modified. I decided to revisit this concept.

Dag: He is a "Richardson's Ground Squirrel", similar to, but not to be confused with, a gopher. There are lots where I live. Simple, little, innocent, timid creature. Misunderstood too, as they are very intelligent and have been found to have complex language. They are very social among their own kind. Odd, as Dag is a bit of a loner, though he doesn't want to be.

Terri: She is a "Steller's Jay". Originally, she was more of a dragon. Decided to go with a more real animal. Even though I imagine her family line is from outside Canada, I just liked the Jay idea enough to stay with it.

Aisha: Apart from Australian, the Wombat fit her body style well, regardless of being kind of ordinary. Also gives her that unassuming, harmless look, in that "sleeping bear" way. Then there are those claws.

Tilda: A cross between a Caribou and a Red Deer. This fits in with her being a French-Canadian. Apart from liking the white tail deer were I am, I also really liked the fact that female Caribou have antlers. She won't be needing to bring along her battering ram!

Zack: Originally, he was some sort of horse/sea horse/dragon hybrid creature, but I wanted something more real and Canadian. It still needed to be amphibious, and I liked the previous blue color he had. Luckily, there is the Canadian, Blue-spotted Salamander. I did get a little unsure, but I read many amphibians, mostly frogs and toads, have very good eyesight. He is still a little bit of a hybrid, as I kept a little bit of the head fin and has remains of external gills where his human hair bangs are.

Holt: He remained the most unchanged. For he is still a Canadian Lynx. Those big, strong paws and claws are very useful for climbing and when left without his blade.
