Reviews for "Ice And Fire Tower Defence"

This game remember me the times of flash games hahhaa very nice!

octopus58 responds:

Thank you! Old flash game feel is exactly what I was going for :D

I played as ice first and I kept thinking there was just no way to win, but I eventually figured out that using the lvl 5 special attack with a combination of the top two tiered units would eventually push fire back. I think its Kosheek (sp?) was the reason I was able to damage the enemy tower. The lvl 5 unit could only do melee damage and so it was having a hard time actually getting to fires tower but it could push far enough that Kosheek(sp?) could throw some snow attacks onto their tower while also damaging their units.

It had me going at first. I would also agree that towards the end you are spamming attacks but its a classic of who can click faster and use their special attacks in the right moment.
I had fun so its definitely a decent game. Also that music is great and suits the game play.

Great work on this one!

octopus58 responds:

Thank you for your words, and I'm really happy you enjoyed the game! I'm also happy you shared your strategy, as it's interesting to see what everyone ends up doing :D
I have a similar strategy with ice, as I just use the ranged unit (Shokeeh) behind the tanky level 5 melee unit to win

Like with Age of War, you can only win at the final level, and it's pretty easy to get there and max everything out. Money doesn't matter in the endgame, so you just spam the most powerful units and wait for your level 5 summon to charge. This means all the other stuff you put in the game, all the units and turrets and abilities, they don't matter. There's no strategy involved in the sense of weaker units being preferable because you need to save money, or needing to buy more turrets because your old ones can get destroyed or something. It's like most of the work you did on the game is just wasted because of lack of more involved game design.

Not only is the fine-tuning way off, but I think there may be an actual bug. The difficulty levels don't seem to make any difference. Easy and hard feel the same.

Also I want to mention that this is not tower defense. It's a one-dimensional RTS, like Age of War

Thanks for the review! It's interesting to hear your experience with the game, as I feel the audience is scattered on it being too hard or too easy, etc.. One thing I will say though, it's actually both possible to beat the game before the last upgrade level (though harder, of course), and lower level summons are actually useful even in level 5! Allow me to give some examples if I may:

With the first point, if you wait certain periods between spawning your units, as well as summon the right ones to kinda "control" your opponent, you can win as early as level 2 sometimes. If anything I was somewhat worried people will find the game too easy because of that, but it doesn't seem like people are able to do that as much as I thought they would. As for the second point, as an example when I play on the fire team but don't want to wait for my level 5 summon, I use the level 3 summon as the green flames often take out even the tankiest opponents if used right and allow me to send in more troops early. Summon level 5 is more the safe option for me on that team if I want to KO the opponents for sure, and level 4 is to ward them off if there is a battle in the center and I'm stuck midway.

In addition, a more "creative" strategy sometimes involves sending out the speedy unit (unlocked level 2) as canon fodder to slow down the opponent teams while you secure the tankier units from behind, etc.

These are just my suggestions, but either way I'm glad you played my game and thank you once again!

Hmm, I think the game is rather cute and I'm always down for a fun tower defense auto-battler game, but I had a really rough time with this as it just felt very confusing and mindless.

I really wanted to engage in a tactical fight with the enemy, but the game just moves too fast and doesn't give enough feedback or information to give me something to go on. It would've been so helpful if there were tooltips where I could learn unit attributes like their role, strength and weaknesses, and it'd also be helpful if I could see how well my troop attacks are doing, such as with damage number pop-ups or health bars, as it all gets lost when they stack up into a chaos of combat where I can't tell if they're attacking or getting damaged, winning or losing.

Because of all that, and the way that resources seemed to keep growing faster than I could spend them, the gameplay just devolved into spamming, with both teams pretty much equalizing in the center and making no progress. I tried to experiment myself to find out unit properties, but it all just gets lost in the chaos due to a lack of feedback.

Perhaps I'm just missing what the ideal strategy is, but I don't think the game is doing well enough at giving me enough information/hints to find it. Still, I think you're on the right track, and the UI and all that was decently put together.

octopus58 responds:

Hello, thanks for checking out the game! I understand it might be a bit intimidating because of the speed, I purposely went more for a think fast and adapt design. There is a wiki article if you are interested describing unit attributes, types, hints, etc but I understand that it not being accessible straight from the game can be a little frustrating. I've seen people adapt a few strategies, and I linked a somewhat simple one in the description as a video, but I do see some people struggle a little with finding an efficient strategy (especially with spacing out troops). I do appreciate the feedback though, it feels good to know all the different thoughts and ideas. Thank you again!

Tower defense themed flash. Graphics are decent enough to tell everything apart. Gameplay is very challenging in a mechanical sense. Your troops are not strong enough, the enemy always seems to be stronger, and you have so much money that you can't use. You should make your troops stronger overall and have major upgrades.

The medals work, and I earned them all.

octopus58 responds:

Thanks for checking it out! As I mentioned though, the teams are different in this case as I didn't want to stick to traditional TD and make something a bit different; fire team has better offense/speed but worse health, while ice team has better defence and health but less speed. So the strategy kind of changes based on what team you play :)
If you want the actual stats though to compare, there's a wiki article linked in the description with stat tables as well
