Reviews for "Party Land"

best animation I've seen in the jam so far, love the art but I thought the levels became a little tedious, namely going up stairs with the floaty jump (check out my Dial-A-Platformer on NG for figuring out jump vars)

Suggested keyboard control changes:
Left/Right arrows, A/D: move left/right
Up, W, X, K: Jump
Z, J: Punch
Down, S: ground pound(in air) eat(on ground)

Gamepad didn't seem to have an eat button on my switch pro controller and joystick didn't move the character

catproX responds:

Thanks for the feedback and I will check out your game. I plan to push out an update for controls, and a bug with the turd missles. As for eating on the controller it was down and X, I believe.

Also thanks for the answering my questions on the forum and on discord.

how do you eat something i am spamming k key and i don't know what to do to eat something

catproX responds:

Hello, and thanks for taking time to play my game. To eat a Party Bear, you first kill it. Then stand beside (basically on) the dead body and press the K-key. It will eat the body. Party Bears have different fullness values. They all give you the same amount of energy, but some will fill your stomach up, and thus make you puke.

If you're still having difficulty, please let me know.

I love the goofy aesthetic of this game that is told through it's comical story, art and animations! However, the lacking element of sound really hurt the game: I would've loved to hear the main character gobble up the enemies, among other things. Enemy attacks seemed abitrary at times as well, with no sound or animation cues to signal them that I could tell: I'd just take damage for some reason not apparent to me. Some of the platforming was a little glitchy at times, and the upset stomach mechanic was a bit confusing: I thought at first it was only happening when I overate (on a full energy bar) but then it just seemed random when it filled up or didn't. With some more polish I think this game could really shine though, since it was still fun to play just going on its comical presentation.

catproX responds:

Thanks for the awesome feedback. Completely agree with the mechanic concepts. The game jam was a great experience and one of the lessons learned was about sound. I was able to grab the music from Freepd.com, an excellent tip from GeoKureli. What sound effects I was able to find were pulled from opengameart.org and hastily thrown in. In the future, I look forward to working with the talented composers on the site.

Interesting platformer Haha this one was very cute I love how the character just flows with animation and you made some refreshing backgrounds like the trees and cute elements like the bear, Well here was an interesting platformer game and you really added all the bells and whistles on this particular platformer game

You added some new twists I normally don't see either some nice additions that make it even better and for me that's what makes these platformer types even better overall I had fun and the gameplay brings on lot of fun graphics was perfect as it is so nice game on this day

Respect people that prefer to use arrow keys for movement - a small advice :-)

catproX responds:

I've added arrow keys! Going forward I need to create an options screen that allows players to configure movement/interactions to theiry liking.
