Reviews for "in the Rough"

Nice Jon

As soon as i saw it, it reminded me of Eric Carle haha

Starogre responds:

i'd be honored to be as awesome as eric carle! thanks! lol

You've inspired me deeply.

I make collages too! But I've NEVER thought of making one like this... it's a brilliant Idea... I normally just cut pictures out perfectly, and arrange them in surrealistic compositions, which I guess is a pretty standard collage style, but this... It's like a mosaic with magazine clips! I never would've thought of something like this! And you've executed it so well... amazing work! I'm really inspired by this.

Starogre responds:

thanks, i appreciate the very kind review! yeah the assignment was to replicate the image. most people in my class did mosaic style with tiny pieces and i wanted something more loose and texture based, to give it some style, so i used bigger pieces. took a lot of time to find the right pieces at some points but it's manageable. i'm glad it works for you though, thanks for the kind words, and good luck with your collages!

Teeth!

I never thought I'd say this, but I love those teeth!

I'm amazed how you managed to pull of the 3d effect with the mouth. From afar, it actually looks like a 3d render (well most of it).

I love collages like these. I could spend all day looking at stuff like that up close and then from far off. I would say that the fingers are the only bits that are slightly unrecognizable. They only look like fingers because we know they are. But if I were to isolate that bit and look a it, it would be a little tougher call. Especially the left hand. What saves it is the fingernails.

But I do love those teeth. I guess it's a real skill choosing shades like that to accomplish that effect.

Nice teeth.

Starogre responds:

Haha thanks! My strategy was basically to look at each part of everything and pick out big areas of shades and textures from the magazines to roughly match the reference image. I could have done mosaic but I prefer spending extra time looking for the bigger pieces of correct hues and shades to be more loose with it. Thanks for the review!

kewl!

why didnt you tell me your a 3d modeler too?
this is awesome!

Starogre responds:

thanks! actually blur studios is a freelance 3d animation company but they do cartoonish short films sometimes so the character isn't mine, but i've done some other 3d stuff. i'll post 3d art as i go, but i have a small screenshot under my lotte reiniger news post of one thing i made that i might post soon.

nice

that's a nice collage you made. keep it up

Starogre responds:

thanks, definitely will
