Reviews for "The Finger Eater - Chapter 1"

Omg! I can't wait for the second part!!! I loved the style of it and the music was great!!!

The whole thing was great, and I loved every second of it. I think the best thing of all was the animation. Can't wait for part two!

The premise itself is increasingly interesting, and the eerie theme of it all draws you in at first glance. It's a typical story of a bullied girl taking a deal with the devil, however it's a typical story that never fails. Also, this is the first installment, and I expect things to obviously get more complex. I really enjoy the animations, and the poem-like scheme of it all. The gameshow-esque voices in the background serve to add more depth. I also noticed the birthday card in the beginning and end, which seems to be a foreshadowing of something coming in the later episodes.

The voiceovers themselves were extremely well done, more than I usually see regarding a movie. I truly hope that I get to see more episodes from you because I'm really excited for this series.

Cannot wait for the next one.

Interesting concept and decently animated, but the premise lacks the pacing and subtlety to make the inevitable part 2 worth looking forward to. Having the creature already state that it demands severed fingers from a possible list of anyone lacks the usual mystery and dread that comes with a "deal with the devil" storyline, and because the protagonist so readily agrees to such a monstrous price without the story showing the audience a more severe level of torment from the bully makes Ruby a non-empathetic character and thus hard to root for when the inevitable horror of the deal hits her.

That being said, the foreshadowing of the first scene is a good touch, and the rhyming works more often than it doesn't, though I think less pause between the stanzas' individual lines would have given it more impact and better flow. All in all a respectable effort, but the break between part 1 and 2 takes you out of the story and gives the audience too much time to think.

TheFabs responds:

Reasons why Ruby agrees to this deal so readily (besides wanting revenge for HERSELF obviously), catches and loopholes in the deal, and many other things that make the concept much more interesting are going into future parts. I was sure to set up these things to come in the first installation, even though their significance may not be apparent yet. At first glance, her taking the deal and wanting revenge may seem very selfish and make her seem like the real villain, but the birthday card from Alice is there to break up that idea just a bit. The voice in the locker claims she has no friends and she never physically says she does ether, but the birthday card says otherwise with the text on it that reads "Your secret friend, Alice".
Anyway, this is all to say that maybe Ruby isn't so unlikable since, just maybe, her reason for taking the deal isn't just for her personal well-being, and maybe she has someone else to fight for. I show the card once at the beginning and again towards the end to emphasize it could mean something crucial to the story.
ANYWAY, with that said, I guess I see what you mean. BUT I THINK I DESERVE MORE THAN 2/5 OKAY BYE
