Reviews for "Wild Fur"

Great sort animation, I liked the concept very much, and the soundtrack was certainly a fantastic choice for this type of story, keep up with the good work.

HowardWimshurst responds:

Thank you very much! I'm thrilled that you like the soundtrack choice. I listen to music to get a lot of my ideas and this track directly influenced the story, colours, characters and stuff

About made a tear come out of my eye. Not quite. I find that sympathy for animals gets old. Dogs, cats, wilds animals, etc.. I kind of wish they all just vanished from our planet. Passing human suffering on other humans feels like fair play to an extent. It's always rather hurtful when I see it done to animals. There is no escaping it. We can avoid the intentional, but the unintentional is massive enough. Is their pain really worth it? Why not euthanize them all?

HowardWimshurst responds:

Wow I almost brought a tear to your eye? That makes me happy. Film making truly is a powerful thing.

That's an interesting outlook you have on the whole situation. I think we as a species need fauna more than we realize. And i think it doesn't hurt to sometimes be reminded that we ARE animals. Although through our intelligence and the formulation of modern day society we have distanced ourselves from the natural world. I'm not complaining but that's how it is

"Why not euthanize them all?" Firstly, that's the nuclear option. It's a very cold and absolute option and a dangerous option. I would only think of that option being ethical in an unnatural setting. For example with battery hens.

I think it's important when asking these questions to understand the duality of more or less everything in existence in the natural world.
Night and day. Positive and Negative. Pain and pleasure. Hot and cold. Yin and Yang. Life and death.
Saying that a thing should be killed or unborn to escape a pain in it's life or ending is a paradox when put in the context of duality. Nature is pure because it has duality. If an animal lives a natural life it will experience pleasure (for example fornicating and raising children) but it will also experience pain and death. It's only when we bring something existential into nature (human kind) that the balance is disrupted. For example, battery hens and born into a man-made existence and their only purpose is to die. I find that quite sad. I know that's not at all what this animation is about, but you have got me thinking. The animation itself is not meant to be a statement, but rather a fictional story with characters that don't exist. I could talk about this all day! So I'll stop now haha

Thanks for your comment

this is really well done, your a good artist and a good animator and everything, buuuttt.... I cant help but think you were making this film, then saw this competition, then decided to throw in a shot with a guy reading the 10 facts.
nothing against the film, its awesome, I just dont feel it relates to the theme you know

HowardWimshurst responds:

Thanks for the comment. I understand it looks that way. But honestly it is not that at all. I only started animating this once the theme was announced in the NATA thread. There are a number of other animators who can vouch for me there, as I have been in lots of live stream events and Skype calls with other animators such as Jae555, Docjoshimitsu, Josh Chambers, Tosmatobeef, Boonebum, Jspiwalk, Northridge and more. This is my third time entering NATA and I am very present in the community and I even know Adam (the creator of NATA) in person.

I knew this animation was going to get criticized for being too far away from the theme but I did it anyway because.. that's just how I like to tell stories. I made loads of ideas and some of them were close to the subject but to be honest, they sucked and I didn't want to animate them. The story evolved to become separate from the theme and I decided not to let the theme limit me creatively. Anyway, If it fails to meet the criteria of the tournament so be it. I can then at least get back to doing commissions for people so it's win win.

thanks for the review!

Amazing story. Great art work.
