Definitely the best entry for the open round! Well done.

this is beautiful.

HowardWimshurst responds:

you are Beautiful! thank you

For starters, this short was exactly as long as it needed to be, with no wasted time -- straight forward narrative, easily relatable characters, and effective storyboarding.

The overall art style, both backgrounds and characters, the choice of music, the sparing use of sound effects, the near-absence of dialogue, and the general theme and story all contribute to this being what I consider a piece of art. Animations like this are the reason I come to Newgrounds.

HowardWimshurst responds:

Ah thank you very much my friend. It was short and to-the-point out necessity haha i only had a very limited time to make it. i would have fleshed it out more because I think a lot of people couldn't keep up with the quick pace.

Thank you for your generous praise, it sound as if we share very similar tastes in animation!

A very nice little animation that packs a powerful punch. A bit short, but gets its point across.

HowardWimshurst responds:

Thanks so much! I'm glad the story was delivered to most people and they understood it. I had to pack a lot of stuff into a very small animation because i only had 3.5 weeks. So there was loads of scenes I had to leave out because I simply did not have enough time to do them. I think if I had more time maybe the story would have done better as perhaps a 2-3 minute short. Some of the out takes:

I wanted to show at the start of the film that the snow leopard was intently focused on hunting a hare when he was shot. I wanted scenes of the Snow leopard being taunted and abused. I wanted the security guards to be alerted in the CCTV room and to be chasing them through a maze of machinery in the engine rooms of the vehicle as I figured this would raise the steaks and make the escape more exciting. As he jumped off the vehicle I wanted a shot of the crew looking over the balcony. the Idea was that it would be a 50-50 chance he would survive the fall. I wanted a slow-mo shot of the snow leopard breaking up through the ice river and taking his first breath, a bit like in "The Impossible" with Naomi Watts. I had to take away shots wherever possible just to get it done in time. But overall it was a good thing because I need a deadline to push me to get stuff done and dusted and then I can move on.

Thanks for your review!

Wow, how did i not see your stuff earlier? this is wonderfully presented, very beautiful yet fast paced. The animation is almost constantly fluid and fits in well with the characters. great job dude! you've earned yourself a fan

HowardWimshurst responds:

Thank you so much! I really enjoyed your entry this year too
