Reviews for "Playing With Letters"

I really enjoyed this game. It was so well thought out. The game is simple but the details in the storyline made it worth the time. At first I was nervous that something would happen if I entered the wrong answer but I am glad that did not happen. I had a bit of trouble with some of the later riddles but I actually did pick up on the last one. Something to try for the sequel is to either have an answer be the first letter of the sentences or align the lines to spell something out vertically.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thank you for playing, and for writing a review! I'm very happy to hear that you liked my game :)
The concept is indeed pretty simple, so a lot of the games value lies in the complex details in the story, that guide you through the puzzles. I decided not to punish the player for a wrong answer. Partly, becaus I knew people would get something wrong pretty often, maybe even because of the fact that some parts may be confusing. Another reason is that it wouldn't make much sense in the context of the story, for there to be a punishment for a wrong answer XD

Thanks for the tip! I may or may not use it in the sequel ;)

This game is fantastic! There should be more text sensitive games out there. I commend you for the detail and challenge that went into this game. The idea to reverse the music was unexpected and unique. I enjoyed every moment while playing and look forward to the sequel mentioned in the pdf. Great work!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks a lot orcfarmer, I'm stoked to hear that you like it!
I actually composed the music myself, and I thought it would've been a waste not to hear it in reverse at some point, so I made sure to get that in there in one way or another XD
Glad to hear that you look forward to the sequel too! I'm planning on making it sometime during the summer of 2016.

Wow. That was amazing. First game I played on this website, and I was not disappointed! This game was obviously well thought out, and the secret ending was just... wow... I can't even describe it in words! I love games like these, and this one was even better then most I've played before! I had quite a bit of trouble with the second puzzle, and I will admit to cheating and watching a walk through to get the answer to the last riddle. But that's what I love about this game! I love a good challenge since (and please don't think I'm being conceited) I'm a bit above average intelligence for my age, so challenges are always a treat for me! Thank you for making this game, it was a LOT of fun. (P.S. I tried the link in the description for the secret ending but I couldn't see it. I wound up getting the answer from the same walk through. But still I don't know if it was just my computer or not, but I thought I should bring it to your attention.)

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thank you, Anime-queen-88!
welcome to Newgrounds :)

I'm pleased to hear you liked this game, as well as the secret ending. I love games similar to this one too, which is why I decided to make on of my own :p
The second puzzle is a tricky one for sure, and there is no shame in looking up a walkthrough. It's good that the game was able to challenge you, as we need challenges from time to time, hehhe...

The link in the description used to work fine. Now, it technically still works, but you have to actually download the pdf to be able to see it for some reason. Things like this tend to happen from time to time, I guess :p

Once again, thanks for playing and for leaving a review!

This game was truly creative. Featuring all text game play, it created a story that was cryptic yet interesting. It consists of many smart puzzles, most with the answers found by hints in the text. Answering correctly continued your quest, but answering wrong had no consequence.
All I can say is it was a great game to play, and on my judgement scale I give it 4.5 out of 5 exploding bombs.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I've been a bit stressed out today thanks to schoolwork, and now that I'm done, it's nice to get back online to a cool review. So thanks a lot for that :D
I'm really happy you enjoyed playing my game.
I decided that there should be no consequence pretty early on, and I think it worked out for the best. I wanted the focus to be on the puzzles, but to keep an element of trial and error :)

Great! Like the atmosphere and puzzles! Interesting conception, something like a new little genre)) I am from Russia, so English is not my mother tounge, but I did it!)

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Great job, dude! Especially for beating the game even though it is in English :D
I'm really glad you enjoyed playing. Thanks, man!
