Reviews for "Crayon Poke"

This Graphics are incredible!!!

its good but why oh god why would you make 's' the jump key

the up arrow or 'w' if it is a WSAD game is ALWAYS a better choice

My immediate first impression of this game was that it was adorable. The main character is so cute, the graphics in the sceneries and features also look very endearing and sweet, and the overall looks are great. Another solid Ludum Dare entry, and you also made The Valley Rule, which I also love. In fact, this is both a Stencyl Jam and an LD32 entry, nice.

I love the graphical style, pixelated, cute and psychedelic at the same time, really making this game pleasant to the eyes and mind. All animations are fluent and made complete by little details, like the small puffs of dust whenever the character jumps. I like the music of the game as well, lovely flute melodies supported by a rhythm section with a simple yet solid bass line, sweet percussion, etc.

This game is another one of those platformer adventures where you explore a big open world, collect power ups in order to reach previously inaccessible areas and continue exploring for new secrets and adventures. There have been a lot of these lately, but I really can't complain, I love those, especially when they are simple and quick like this one. The first powerup is a crayon shooting mechanic that you can use to create little platformers to climb the walls, which is pretty cool, and I had already seen the same thing in another game, Depict1. That's no biggie, though, since it's not uncommon for adventure games to use the same powerups as one another. While most of the game's sections can be traversed with ease once the player knows how to do them, some parts are annoying because they require far too fast reaction times, making them frustrating and requiring infinite retries, but even they are pretty satisfying once beaten (you know, like, that serotonine rush from when you finish a hard challenge).

The game's features are basically heads that serve as springs, pigs that ram into the player colliding violently against walls, secrets that are subtly placed in parts of the map some people are likely to ignore, and that's about it. I guess the game's just too short, and that was quite a letdown for me at least. I wish it was at least a little bit longer, the way it is right now, it doesn't even build up to a satisfying climax, and that's a big problem.

Great game :) Really fun. Has a lot of potential for a longer version. Especially if you can flesh out the world more - as mentioned, certain elements seem sinister. It would be cool if it had more of a story. I agree with another commentor who mentioned the fact that the throwing object being Crayons specifically has no bearing on the game itself (other than the design of the object). Would be cool if it had.

I also had a lot of trouble with the spiky section where it's like _--_ with black spikes on the two sides and white spikes in the middle... the double jump doesn't take the character far enough to reach a crayon on the other side... I hadn't noticed that you could stack the crayons... I ended up using a small bug where you can land just on the edge of the middle platform without touching the spikes, jump over to the other side and land on the edge without touching the spikes, then jump to a crayon on the wall! Hahaha :) Found 2 "secrets". Will keep playing to find the others.

Very cool.
