Reviews for "Dead Detention #1"

Alright some reviews are right and harsh but I gotta say it really has potential keep up the good work man and I'm looking forward t the second episode.

Okay, so I can see that this is a genuine attempt on your behalf and you got a lot of potential. So I'm going to be brutally honest with you in this review.

The writing isn't as crap as you might normally see in a Newgrounds flash but that's not saying a lot. The plot here is riddled with cliches. Dork gets thrown into a post-apocalyptic scenario where he finally gets to be a hero and have a bland love interest. Not interesting. The dialogue has some flavour to it, sure, but it reads like something from a third-rate anime. I tried looking at it from all angles and I can't see anything different being done with the anime and zombie tropes you got going on here either.

The art looks really... half-assed. I know you went for a "scribbly" look but it was unsuccessful. There's a series of interactive novels with a zombie narrative on here created by Hyptosis that also goes for a quickly-drawn look and it's much easier on the eyes. Maybe take a look at them if you haven't already.

Also, tracing over screenshots and drawings should only be done as a method for learning. Don't include the actual tracings in the game itself because they're painfully obvious and further detract from the game's quality.

Anyway. The interactive segments had no place in the game. There was just no point and I don't even think there was a way to fail any of them either. Now, if the purpose was to connect with me emotionally by making me personally pull the trigger on an infected friend? That would be great. But that isn't the case here. Instead, I'm manually striking a match for a loser.

With no actual gameplay, you could've gone for something like a forking path in terms of the story or choice in dialogue. But there's none of that. It's a very, very linear experience.

I'm sorry if this review comes off as a little cruel but I'm only doing so because I know you have the potential to create something great.

Best of wishes.

could use more color but love the plot cant wait for ep2

It needs work, mostly on the art style, story, immersion. All this thing is a poorly colored point and click about some blue haired kid who basically is the stereotypical otaku hero. Doesn't pay attention in class, suddenly is thrown into a situation for him to be the hero, meets a cute girl and her friend and tries to survive. If you fix these things and make it so we can care for the characters then ya got yourself a game.

The art is lazy but I'll let it pass as it's not bad to look at. The gameplay was the worst part. I don't really enjoy pressing buttons just to progress the story. The story is most important so you can focus on that but I want to play a game, not just read it.

It was very short and I don't know why you couldn't have the entire story in a single game. Maybe it will be really long but wouldn't it be better to have the entire game in a single game.
