Reviews for "Spiderling"

The atmosphere, music, and art are phenomenal. The basic platforming gameplay is formulaic while the games rope mechanic is dysfunctional bordering on unplayable. The largest problem with the rope is that its length is to short, and its speed is far to slow making the sections involving moving along cliff tops a nightmare of frustration.

The second major issue with the rope is how you control its direction while swinging with it. You use the arrow keys to direct where you need to go during a jump, but you also use it to aim where the web goes, and because there is no margin of error do to how slow, and short the web is. Trying to use it in the half a second interval transitions from surface to surface in mid air with the rope going the wrong direction compounds the already frustrating nature of needing to have pinpoint accuracy with the rope do to its speed, and length issues.

Finally there seems to be a bug where the rope won't stick to surfaces some times on top of the of the aforementioned problems.

If you fix the issues with the rope I can see this game being very high quality, and achieving countless awards. One other thing, and this is just totally my opinion, but I would love to see some more spider abilities with the spiderling. The ability to make rope bridges, tie up enemies, and maybe a poison bite that can stun hostile mobs just a few ideas. Anyway good luck, and thanks for the experience you worked hard on it, but it still needs a bit of work.

Excellent mechanic and visual, good job :)

This game is fantastic. The Stencyl package is real good for making platformers, and this game tries to stand out from all others by using the rope swinging mechanic. Coupled with great art, some fitting and beautiful music and a decent storyline, and I think this physics platformer is onto a winner. The retracting snails really stood out for me, too!

My only beef is that you really need to get to grips with the web mechanic fairly quickly to enjoy the story, so I found the rolling rock a bit frustrating. However it's all part of the game's learning curve.

Really nice game, the atmosphere is nice so the synergy between art, music and mechanic. Would love to see a epsiode 2!

Awesome Game!!!
