While the concept was interesting and potentially even good, from the minute I started trying to play the game was broken. I tried to move the units, they refused. As a attempt to see if I hadn't selected the game I double clicked the screen and tried again. Still no response. I fiddled with the audio and other options and they worked fine but the units wouldn't budge. As a last attempt I quit and started a new game and even that failed. The game was essentially unplayable.

That's strange. Just drag and drop the units from the side to the grid, right? If you drag them elsewhere, like outside or to the bottom menu bar, of course they will move back to their original locations. Many others have succeeded in playing the game. And if you refer to the walkthrough videos, they show you how it's done. Could well be your mouse / browser / flash plugin / computer...
If possible, can you give me more specific details instead of "units refused"?
